design + architecture
Tin Shui Wai, is situated in the northwestern portion of the New Territories, Hong Kong. It is a third generation 'New Town', but it is often labeled as “The City of Sorrow” due to the highest unemployment rate, largest populationof low-income family , and large number of family abuse cases. Along with many other social problems it lacks in sense of community.
This project attempts to use architecture as a generator for social interaction and aims to provide a Framework for diverse activities in a livable environment. It aims to re-link the two disparate neighborhood (low-income from west and mid-income from east) into one overlapping Urban Activity Centre or core, welcoming diversity and involvement while re-introduce the sense of community. A mixed-use, high density local community center is situated within 10 minutes walk to surrounding neighborhoods, with a Green Corridor that link the East to West establishing a strong gathering place acting as the central hub of the north part of the city.
